It's a Great Day!

I work for the local tranist agency, which means that one of the (only) perks we get is riding the bus for free. Since you now need a home equity loan to fill your tank with gas, this is a pretty nice perk for getting to work. Ridership is definitely on the rise with the insane gas prices, so I often find myself squished like a sardine in with the masses trying to make it home in the afternoon. This was the case today. During my ride I found myself squished next to a guy who proceeded to look down my dress for the majority of the ride home (A friend pointed out that was probably the highlight of his day, so more power to him).

I guess any day you can make it home without being groped is a good day. Unless you want to get groped... then I guess it sucks to be you. :-)

The Fall of Society

I have decided that the fall of our society as we know it will be credited to the installation of Solitare on every computer ever sold. Why is it I can sit down to play one game during a commercial and look up 3 hours later and realize that I have completely wasted an entire evening?? What is it about this game that is so addictive?

Think about the hours of productive time lost at work from people playing this game under the radar. Amazing.

It is 12:16 am and I am now going to bed. It took everything I had to drag myself away from the stupid solitare. Ugh.

Mad Cow Monday

As I was driving home from the gym last night I noticed several of Friendswood's finest driving slowly down the road with their lights on. I didn't see any cars pulled over, so I thought this odd. Then I noticed something moving through the bushes on the side of the road and wondered if they had some bad kids on the run. Then I saw it. A cow had escaped the field it was grazing in and was running down the side of the highway. The police were attempting to keep it from running into the street.

Finally one of the cops got out of his car and jumped in front of the cow who promptly jumped through the barbed wire fence (ouch!) and back into the enclosure. Mr. Policeman was extremely proud of himself, and all was right with the world. Excitement from the 'wood on a Monday evening!! Yet another reason we were voted one of the best places in the US to live. Good times!!

7 Years of Wedded... Something!

Yesterday, Steve and I celebrated our 7th wedding anniversary. We have had our ups and downs, but we are still kickin'! We ended up staying home and ordering in Chinese take-out. It was a nice relaxing evening. Steve has been promising that this year he got me a great gift. Yesterday, I finally found out what it was.

It is a beautiful silver & rose gold double heart pendant from Tiffany!!! My brother's awesome girlfriend, Katie, works at the flagship Tiffany in NYC and helped him pick it out. Thanks for helping Steve out, Katie!! He is a little clueless when it comes to jewelry.

Thank you, honey! Happy Anniversary!

The Peeing Mantis Strikes Again!!!

Ok ladies... I am completely grossed out by this bathroom phenomenon known as "hovering." I do not understand how or why this came to be a good thing, especially at work. This is not the gas station on the corner! It is a regularly-cleaned office bathroom used only by co-workers in a secured building. I do not see the need to hover. ESPECIALLY when there are convienent seat covers in every stall. I cannot tell you how many times over the last year I have walked in and seen the recent shower left behind. Gross!!

I envision this woman, whoever she is, as a giant Preying Mantis (aka Peeing Mantis). I wish I was a graphic artist so I could draw what I see in my head. Blech. All I can find is this:

Just cover the seat and move on. You are grossing me out.

Help Support the NAMI Walk!!

Dear Friends, Family, and Loyal Readers,

I am writing you today to tell you about an upcoming event that I am participating in that is both very important and very exciting to me. It is NAMIWalks for the Mind of America, NAMI’s signature walkathon event that is being held in Houston, TX at Sam Houston Park/Allen Parkway on May 3, 2008.

I would like to ask you to come and walk with me or to donate to support my participation in this great event. Visit my personal walker page to sign up: http://www.nami.org/namiwalks08/HOU/elizabethcates.

It features a link to my team's page where you can see who else is walking with me. There is also a link so you can donate directly to me online. Donating online is fast and secure, and I'll get immediate notification via e-mail of your donation.

NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, is the largest education, support and advocacy organization that serves the needs of all those whose lives are touched by these illnesses. This includes persons with mental illness, their families, friends, employers, the law enforcement community and policy makers. The NAMI organization is composed of approximately 1100 local affiliates, 50 state offices and a national office.

The goals of the NAMIWalks program are: to fight the stigma that surrounds mental illness, to build awareness of the fact that the mental health system in this country needs to be improved, and to raise funds for NAMI so that they can continue their mission. NAMI is a 501(c)3 charity and any donation you make to support my participation in this event is tax deductible. NAMI has been rated by Worth magazine as among the top 100 charities "most likely to save the world" and has been given an "A" rating by The American Institute of Philanthropy for efficient and effective use of charitable dollars.

Thank you in advance for your support.

Sincerely,
Elizabeth

Random Thoughts and Self Discovery

  • Why is it always so freaking windy on the days when I wear skirts and dresses? Is there really more wind than pants day, or am I just more observant because I don't want the world to see my underwear?

  • Squeeze cheese is from the devil. So are Cheetos, Thin Mints, and all other things that I adore, yet pretend I don't eat. Blah.

  • People at work should wear bells on their shoes so as not to sneak up on people and give them a heart attack. Just sayin...
